This article give us the material about semantic in general and also gives example that easy to understand.


Summary:

Semantic is one part of linguistics that learn about meaning. In semantic there are sentence, utterance, and proposition that usually we found on the text or sentence. In semantics it needs to make a careful distinction between utterances and sentences.

  • · Sentence is a group of words  that are put together to mean something.
        For example:
1. I would like a cup a coffe (a sentence)
2. Coffe, please (not a sentence)
     this is not a sentence, but words that a meaning is ask a coffe, usually is occured in caffe or restaurant
  • · Utterance is  when a sentence is spoken in particular context by a certain speaker and is directed to a hearer. Utterance is also called pragmatic.

    Deictic Word

    Wordsof which referents are determined by the specific context in which a speaker converses with a hearer about a particular topic of conversation.
    For example:
    Amii : Last weekend I went to Semarang and stayed there for two days.”
    Abii : “You must had have a great time.”(This was spoken on Sept 25, 2013)
    *
    - “last weekend” refers to Sept 21, 22, and 23, 2013.
    - “I” refers to Amii
    - “there” means Semarang
    -“You” means Amii

     The strengthness of this journal are:
     This journal provide very complete explanation with key word or instruction, that can make the reader more understand.

The Weakness
this journal used decode decipher that make the reader become confused and do not make the example in each explanation, so the reader cannot understand this journal clearly.

So, Semantics have many function in context of Unified Modeling Language.
